Schlesinger Jr.] In the end of the XX century, Arthur Schlesinger understood the problem: heterogeneity without unifying ideals and a common culture, just creates a society fragmented into separate ethnic communities struggling for power and survival. Multiculturalism, or the ethnicity cult as he described it, was a road to Balkanization and would ultimately result in the dismiss of the nation. Although the dispensable wishful thinking, the book was an honest warning to the USA elites and public. But as he concluded, foreseeing the future, "history is littered with the wreck of states that tried to combine diverse ethnic or linguistic or religious groups within a single sovereignty."
